5 Movies To Watch When The World Is Too Much To Handle

We get it, the going gets tough sometimes, but there’s certainly no reason to lose hope. We all need a little mood-lifter sometimes, or the reminder that humans are not all that bad.

These feel good movies does just that, check them out!

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (1994)

There’s a good reason why The Shawshank Redemption is the IMDB Top Rated movie today, surpassing The Godfather.

Chronicling the life of a once successful man in the gloomy jailhouse and the unlikely friendship between him, Andy (Tim Robbins) and long- term inmate Red (Morgan Freeman), the movie really is about how each nurtures the other in finding hope, and keeping their insanity intact.

FORREST GUMP (1994)

22 years on, Forrest Gump still remains as one of the most inspiring and memorable film of all time.

The Oscar- winning film depicts the life of Forrest, a slow-witted but kind hearted man who witnesses, and influences some of the defining events in United States. Offering a charming perspective of how some of the most tumultuous times are seen through the simple eyes of Forrest Gump.

Critics call it a tonic for the weary heart, and we cannot agree more. This one certainly tugs at the heartstrings.

FINDING FORRESTER (2001)

There’s nothing more heart-warming to watch than two individuals of different background, at different phases of their lives come together and teach each other, as presented beautifully in this movie.

Jamal (Rob Brown) is a gifted teen who was awarded a scholarship to attend a premier private school, but there he faces prejudice. He then made a special friend William Forrester (Sean Connery) who was the writer of a great novel decades ago, but now living his golden years in solitude. The duo build a special bond, William helping Jamal with his writing, and Jamal helping William find happiness once again.

50/50 (2011)

Props to any movie that can make you laugh and also make you cry, mixing humour in a serious topic like cancer, and 50/50 blew us away by delivering just that.

Inspired by a true story, 50/50 is a comedy about Adam (Joseph Gordon- Levitt) who is diagnosed with a rare spinal cancer, turns to his best friend, his mother, and a young therapist (Anna Kendrick) and comes to realise what and who the most important things in his life are.

It is flawlessly emotional, and takes a lighter approach to a person’s emotional roller coaster and struggle with a life-threatening illness and yet still achieve its objective of inspiring viewers to appreciate life and the people around us.

THE GOOD LIE (2014)

The Good Lie took us by surprise, it is nothing like what we have expected.

You would think the star power of Reese Witherspoon and being the sole feature in the movie poster, Reese’s character Carrie Davis would take centre stage. The Good Lie is far from just that.

Carrie helps a group of Sudanese refugees adjust to life in the United States, then graciously moves aside, and let the stories of these immigrants shine, cleverly displays how this group of boys eventually become the heroes of their own lives which is beyond refreshing to watch.

We grow to love the characters mid- way, pretty sure you will too.

Astounding movies are worth re-watching and capable of evoking similar or greater depth of emotions even after watching it several times.
