Expect live action reboots of much-loved animated films and sequels of some of the best franchises. Here’re some of the top classics to catch in 2019!
DUMBO
A heartwarming story of a misfit baby elephant born with gigantic ears who eventually found his place in the world when he learned to make use of his ears to fly.
Helmed by none other than Tim Burton, Disney’s Dumbo is set to open in Cathay Cineplexes on 28 March.
ALADDIN
The live-action remake of one of Disney’s classics takes you to Agrabah, where Aladdin discovers a magic lamp, and uses it to win the heart of Princess Jasmine and defeat Jafar, the evil Grand Vizier of Agrabah.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, starring Will Smith as Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Aladdin is slated to open on 23 May.
TOY STORY 4
Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the gang are back!
The fourth installment of the highly successful animated film introduces Bonnie’s reluctant new toy named Forky and takes the crew on a road trip where Woody discovers how big the world can be for a toy.
Mark your calendar, Toy Story 4 is coming to Cathay Cineplexes on 20 June.
THE LION KING
One of the year’s most anticipated film, the ninth highest grossing animated film of all time which also spawned a stage musical, Disney’s The Lion King is finally getting its live-action remake in 2019!
James Earl Jones is reprising his iconic voice role for Favreau’s re-telling as Mufasa, the noble king lion who rules from atop Pride Rock in Africa and grooms his son, Simba, to follow in his footsteps.
This one is not to be missed. In cinemas, 18 July.
