THE GRUDGE

Kicking off the year with the King of horror franchises. For horror fans, this needs no introduction. The film has terrorized us since 2004 with the first of the series. It is set to return in 2020, telling the story of a house cursed by a vengeful ghost that dooms those who enter it with a violent death.

DOLITTLE

Opens 16 January 2020

On to something light-hearted and perfect for all ages. Starring Robert Downey Jr. as the eccentric Dr. John Dolittle, a famed doctor and veterinarian who discovers that he can talk to animals. The film also stars Tom Holland, Emma Thompson and Selena Gomez as voices of Jip, Polynesia and Betsy.

BIRDS OF PREY

Margot Robbie as Harleen Quinzel / Harley Quinn is returning to the big screen! This time, the iconic character in Suicide Squad will be joined by a whole new cool squad with Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s Black Canary, and Rosie Perez’s Detective Renee Montoya! In Birds of Prey, the squad will unit to save a young girl from an evil crime lord.

GODZILLA VS KONG

It’s the battle of the King of the Monsters! The two have proven their strength in each of their own standalone titles, but who do you think will win the fight? The gigantic Kong or the unstoppable Godzilla? The movie will answer this age old question as we watch two of the most iconic monsters clash for an epic fight.

DISNEY’S MULAN

This is one Disney princess movie that need no saving from the prince, in fact, she’s the one who did the saving! Girl power represent right there.

 

You probably already know the synopsis, but in case you don’t, Mulan tells the story of a fearless young Chinese maiden who disguised herself as a male warrior in order to saver her father. This live-action Mulan stars Chinese actress Liu Yifei and actors Donnie Yen and Jet Li.

THE NEW MUTANTS

It’s about time! The release date of The New Mutants has repeatedly been pushed back and the wait is finally over!

 

The New Mutants tell the story of five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.

BOND 25: NO TIME TO DIE

Opens 9 April 2020

Bond is back. The next installment of the James Bond franchise brings back Daniel Craig as the iconic secret agent. We can never get enough of Daniel Craig in a sleek suit can we?

 

In No Time To Die, James Bond was roped back to assist an old friend from the CIA. This time, he is pitted against a new mysterious and dangerous villain played by Academy Award winner Rami Malek.

MARVEL STUDIOS’ BLACK WIDOW

It’s about time we say! Marvel Studios is finally putting Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in the spotlight, a stand-alone movie focusing on Natasha Romanoff’s past, between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. She may have sacrificed herself in Avengers: Infinity War, but that does not mean it’s the last we’ll see her.

 

Get ready to book your tickets in advance because this is definitely at the top as one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year.

FAST & FURIOUS 9

Opens 21 May 2020

This is undoubtedly one of the most successful film franchise ever. Just when you think you’ve seen it all of car racing and thrashing, #F9 proves there’s more. You know what to expect when director Justin Lin label the upcoming #F9 as one of the most ambitious film of the series so far. Vin Diesel also took to Instagram to share his excitement and pride as filming officially wrapped.

 

Not much have been revealed of the synopsis yet, so we can only wait in anticipation.

DISNEY’S ARTEMIS FOWL

Another movie that we’ve been waiting eagerly for. The Artemis Fowl project began way back in 2013 with the announcement of director Kenneth Branagh and cast Judi Dench, Josh Gad and Ferdia Shaw. It’s first trailer was release in November 2018 and now in 2020, it’s finally coming to the big screens!

The movie is based on the first two books of wildly popular fantasy series, telling the story of adolescent criminal genius Artemis, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, who captures a vicious fairy, and attempts to harness her magical powers in a bid to rescue his family.

WONDER WOMAN 1984

2017’s Wonder Woman broke box office record taking in $822 million at the worldwide box office. Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing two new villains: Max Lord and The Cheetah. With director Patty Jenkins back at the helm, Gal Gadot returning as the title role, an emotional reunion with Chris Pine who returns as Steve Trevor, and from this amazing trailer, we know Wonder Woman 1984 is a definite must-watch!

MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU

In 2020, these gibberish-talking yellow creatures will return to continue their adventures in search of a tyrannical leader.

TOP GUN: MAVERICK

In case you’re too young to know, the original film Top Gun, released 33 years ago in 1986 (*GASP) was one of the highest grossing movie of its time.

 

Tom Cruise will return in 2020 reprising his role as a hotshot fighter pilot. In this film, Maverick is now a flight instructor who mentors Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (played by Miles Teller), the son of his late friend Goose from the first film.

You know what we mean now? What an exciting year it’s going to be in the cinematic world! The first half of the year is already filled with at least one highly anticipated movie per month!
